Maya McCoy's Grandparents, Ernest and Peace Champion, and children

DESCRIPTION
This image is of Maya Mccoy's mother, maternal grandparents and uncle in Jaffna. Maya's family is brought up in her interview for the SAADA Archival Creators Fellowship Project on Ilankai Tamil Feminism. She discusses how her mother's brief stint in Sri Lanka before her family moved abroad helped to shape her worldview such that it left impressions on Maya's politics of solidarity. Maya has a similar experience with her grandfather, who was former faculty at Jaffna College, an institution that is regularly brought up as one of historical and social significance among other interviewees of this fellowship project. He was a Professor of Ethnic Studies at Bowling Green State University and author of the book Mr. Baldwin, I Presume that touches on his collaborator and friend James Baldwin.
