India's Contribution to Science
DESCRIPTION
Document by the India League of America titled "India's Contribution to Science," first published as an editorial in the September 20, 1943 edition of the New Republic . The essay is framed by the restrictions on natives of India from citizenship, a handicap, the writer states, "they share with the Chinese and other Orientals." The writer continues: "Apparently our government believes that Indians are inferior to Albanians, Turks, Armenians and many other races which are permitted free access and free citizenship." The essay focuses on "inventions and discoveries [that] are playing a valuable part in helping to win the war" from Indian scientists in America, focusing on the work of Sir Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar, Jagan Nath Sharma, Alamjit D. Singh, K.N. Nathju, V.R. Kokutnur, Beram D. Saklatwalla, Sharat Kumar Roy, Yellapragada Subarrow, Subramanyan Chandrasekhar. The editorial concludes with names of world renown Indian scientists.
