Dear Madam,
Many thanks for your kind letter. I am sorry to learn that you have had many troubles on your return to U.S.A. I hope you have now seen the end of them and also transmuted the trying experiences into riches of the soul. All trials and tribulations can contribute to the development of personality by conferring wisdom and sympathy and fortitude, if we adopt the right attitude. As Browning says: "Then welcome each rebuff, that turns earth's smoothness rough."
Kindly let me know if I can ever be of service to you here in England. I shall give some lectures in London in the autumn. If you have any friends who may be interested, I shall inform them. The lectures will be held at Cuxton Hall.
How are events in U.S.A.? Is Socialism growing in strength? We are watching the events in Spain with keen interest & anxiety.
