??. ??. Berkeley (Cal) Feb. 10. 42 ?? Dear Brooks, I am sorry I have not written earlier. I shall come to spend several weeks at Palo Alto when it is a little warmer. The Forum there has stopped work for the present. I am very busy here in the city & at the Univy of Cal. Slowly but surely the work progresses, and foundations for future work are being laid. So you have decided to go to England. Well, I think you will enjoy life there better than in this sleepy hollow. There will be so many opportunities for you in several directions. So while I must be sad at the thought of parting, I should be glad that you will be happier there than here. But I must see as much of you as possible before you go. I heard from Mr. Michael Williams?? in reply to my circular. I will visit him some time. How are you getting on with your work? I have written a short essay on Jesus, at Barry's suggestion. I will show it to you when I come up to P.A. How is everybody there? I had a delightful meeting at the California Club in the city, when I gave a talk on Robert Browning. The Oakland people will expect a lecture from you on Whitman in April. I often think of you & Charles & Mrs. Brooks. I miss my Sunday suppers. I should come up soon to claim them.
