Young India (January 1920)

DESCRIPTION
The January 1920 issue of Young India (Vol. 3, No. 1) opens with a statement on Lajpat Rai's departure from the United States on December 24 to Liverpool. The League of Oppressed Peoples marked his farewell with a dinner on November 28 at the Hotel des Artistes in New York. Another farewell dinner was organized by Indian Residents of New York, on November 30 at the Taj Mahal Hindu Restaurant. In attendance was Ghadar leader S.N. Karr, Swami Bodhanand, S.N. Bose, Taraknath Das, N.S. Hardikar, and Mohammad Azim, among others. Articles featured in this issue included "The Delhi Tragedy," "India in 1917-18" by D.S. Rao, and a poem titled "India Waking" by Gertrude Boyle.

1920 also saw a significant change in leadership. The officers were listed as J.T. Sunderland (President), P.D. Sakalatwala (Vice-President), B.W. Huebsch (Vice-President), N.S. Hardikar (General Secretary), R.L. Bajpai (Assistant Secretary), D.S. Vijaya Rao (Treasurer). The councillors list include the following people: Edna Duce, Leonora O'Reilly, Henrietta Rodman, R.K. Khemka, B.B. Sircar, J.A. Setna, M.K. Pandit, P.N. Mathur, S.S. Gandheker, Kartar Singh. Also listed on the advisory board are H.R. Mussey, Francis Hackett, and Signe Toksvig (Secretary).
