About the Collection

Collection Description
This collection consists of 17 digitized issues of The Hindusthanee Student: A Quarterly Review of Education, published by the Hindustan Association of America (HAA). Also included are digitized copies of individual items in the issues, such as photographs and advertisements. HAA's Student included a mix of essays and articles authored by notable figures including Rabindranath Tagore, and updates from HAA chapters and from South Asian students who had returned to India.

These items are drawn from the Center for Research Libraries' (CRL) holdings. SAADA staff created the collection by digitizing select CRL items and gathered them together on SAADA.org as the Hindusthan Association of America Collection.

Biographical History
The Hindustan Association of America (HAA) was formed circa 1912 with the mission to "further the interests of Hindustani students, [and] to interpret India to America and America to India"1. The organization's officers included Sudhindra Bose, C. Chakravarty, Rafidin Ahmed, S.M. Pagar, S.N. Kar, and Basanta Koomar Roy, with a longer list of councilors from the "East," "Middle West," and "West" regions of the United States.
