"Public Meeting: Is India Independent?" Flyer
DESCRIPTION
Flyer for public meeting on the question of India's "independence," held in Eshleman Hall at U.C. Berkeley in August 1976. The meeting—called by supporters of the Hindustani Ghadar Party and the Organization of Indian Marxist-Leninists Abroad—addressed the problem that while India had fought for and succeeded in gaining self-determination from Britain in 1947, the majority of the country was still ruled by foreign capitalists and landlords.

PUBLIC MEETING: IS INDIA INDEPENDENT?
Ever since August 15, 1947 the ruling classes of India have been perpetrating the hoax of "independence". In fact, the "independence" of India in 1947 marked the transition from the British colonial rule over semi-feudal India to the semi-colonial semi-feudal state of India. Today marks 31 years of the dark rule of the big landlords and foreign dependent capitalists of India—the rule that has produced sixty million unemployed and forced 80% of the population to live below the minimum conditions of existence, the rule that has resulted in ever deteriorating economic,political and social conditions for the people of India.
On the 31st "anniversary" of this sham "independence", the Indian ruling classes are bankrupt- economically and politically and are unable to rule the country. They are arming themselves to the teeth to protect their tottering rule against the onslaught of the Indian Revolution. The broad masses of Indian people, under the leadership of the Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist), are increasingly taking up the path of resisting the attacks of the reactionary state with revolutionary violence, the path of Armed Agrarian Revolution, the path of Naxalbari. The future holds promise of greater victories for the struggles of the people and gloom and doom for the rule of reaction in India.
