DESCRIPTION
The March 1924 issue of the United States of India (Vol. 1, No. 8) published from the headquarters of the "Pacific Coast Hindustani Association" at No. 5 Wood Street, San Francisco focused primarily on the Akali movement. A Gurdwara reform movement, the Akalis aimed to reclaim historic Gurdwaras from British-supported Mahants. A lengthy essay titled "Who Are the Akalis? A Brief Study in Sikhism" makes up the majority of the issue contents, along with the editorial and news and notes section. The issue contains photographs documenting attacks by the British Indian Police on the Akalis.
