Your Grace,

We, the members of Kerala Catholic community in metro Detroit congratulate and welcome you whole-heartedly as our chief shepherd.

We are the descendants of Catholics from the small southern state namely Kerala, which is the nerve-center of Christendom in India. St. Thomas, the Apostle preached gospel and established Christianity and met martyrdom in this part of the world. Bedsides Latin Rite we have followers of Syro-Malabar and Syro-Malankara Rites. Majority of Catholics follow Syro-Malabar Rite. In metro Detroit we have about 200 Kerala Catholic families. Departing Cardinal Edmund Szoka was very kind to visit us in June, 1986. He arranged to bring us a Kerala priest to help us in our religious needs. He is also the Assistant Pastor, St. Mary Magdalene Church, Melvindale where we celebrate our liturgies, hold religion classes, ect.

This year, on September 15, Saturday we are celebrating our 10th anniversary with Holy Mass in Syro-Malabar Rite followed by public meeting, cultural activities and traditional oriental dinner. Our community has unanimously decided to invite you as our chief guest on this occasion. We are sure that this will provide us ample opportunity to know each other better.
We hope we will hear from you soon.

With love and regards

Very truly yours
